About Dr Maike Neuhaus
Hi! I'm Maike, founder of The Flourishing Doc. I’m a psychologist, coach and a flourishing and self-leadership fanatic. I’m a solopreneur. But even more so, I’m a human struggling my way through this life on earth. I’m a wife, a sister, a woman, and I’m a mother. And if you don’t mind, I’d like to share my personal story with you.
But first, I have a question for you: On a scale from 1 -10 (1=zombie and 10=fully present in life and living it to the fullest), what score would you currently give yourself?
"I believe that many of us have become so used to being alive, that we've become somewhat bored with it and stuck in a rut. So, supporting others to flourish and witnessing them finding their lust for life again and living it with purpose and to the fullest is what makes my heart sing."

The Flourishing Meter
For as long as I can think, I've had a fascination with the fact that some people seem to thrive in life and live it to the fullest, while others go from one hurdle to another, stand in their own way, and vegetate away. I was intrigued by the stories of people who had a near-death experience: Who survived a severe illness, accident, or some other traumatic experience; and who say that for them, it was a wake-up call to do things differently; that since then, they don’t take life for granted anymore but live every minute of every day like it’s their greatest gift. Have you heard those stories?
They often say it’s like a switch had been flicked. An invisible switch that we all seem to carry but don’t know about. A switch that has ‘fully alive’ on one side and ‘zombie’ on the other. A flick that, by default, seems to be in zombie mode for most of us. Because we’re so used to living, to being alive, to being IN life, that we’ve become blazé about it.
Well, I was determined to live my life so that if I were ever to get that wake-up call, I could proudly say ‘not going to change anything, because I’ve been living my life deeply and to the fullest all along. I was going to flick my own switch. I was going to un-zombie myself and carpe the heck out of each diem – without wasting years and relying on a wake-up call or a near-death experience. It's what drove me to study psychology - I needed to find out what makes us tick. Where motivation comes from. How we can amplify it. How we can beat procrastination. And how we can ensure we can accomplish any goal we want.
Sure enough, one day, that wake-up call came. My then 4-year old was diagnosed with an illness that stopped our lives right in its tracks, turned our world upside down and made us question everything. I realised, that I could NOT stand proudly and proclaim that I had lived my live fully all along and was living it to the best of my ability. Most of all, I realised that I was feeling unfulfilled by my job and not living my purpose whatsoever. Worst of all, I had no clue how to fix it. I was languishing.
After about a year or so of wrestling with my job, willing it to fulfill me again and eventually accepting that our love affair had come to a tragic end, I sat down at home with a pen and paper, determined to start fresh: What subject would I choose if I were to ever study again? Psychology! Without a doubt. So, what was it that fascinated me about it so much? That's when the first draft of my signature course FRESH START was born. I started teaching it in Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast of Australia, quit my full-time job a few years later, and here you are reading these lines.
These days, I've made my courses and resources available online, and coach people from all over the world. Together with my family, we spent a couple of years in Europe and we're about to go travelling the world fulltime. And nothing makes me happier than supporting people like you find your purpose and create a life that excites you again, too. So, if there's ever anything you'd like a helping hand with, please feel free to reach out.
